Work will soon begin on a much-anticipated greenway connection in Fountain City that will safely link Adair Park and residents living north of the Interstate 640 / Broadway intersection with neighborhoods and destinations south of Sharps Ridge.
The new Adair Park / Sue Clancy Greenway Extension officially broke ground on Monday, November 17.
This new half-mile connector will fill an important gap in the greenway system, creating a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists traveling through the busy Broadway and I-640 corridor. When complete, the extension will allow residents and park visitors to navigate the area without having to contend with heavy vehicle traffic.
Legacy Parks Foundation played a key role in helping make the project possible by negotiating the necessary easements across properties owned by the Knoxville Utilities Board and Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home and Lynnhurst Cemetery.
The City of Knoxville will construct and maintain the new greenway. The path will initially be constructed as a 10-foot-wide gravel pathway along Lynnhurst Creek, with plans to pave it in the future as part of the City’s Five-Year Neighborhood Investment Plan. Completion is anticipated in spring 2026.
