Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness can now be boasted as the “Best Urban Park” in the eastern U.S. thanks to the Best of the Blue Ridge 2016 Reader’s Choice Awards put on by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine. Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness began as an initiative of Legacy Parks in 2008, and since then, we’ve been working collaboratively to connect and expand this 1,000-acre natural space along downtown’s south waterfront.
We’ve added 50 miles of trail for hiking and biking; joined multiple parks, historic sites, and great views; and even added a playground and kid’s bike area. Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness continues to gain recognition on a regional and national scale, and is boosting the local economy through the visitors and residents it draws to the area. We are proud of the way Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness is giving back to the community, and we’re excited to work on more improvements in 2017!
