The 2.2-mile section of greenway spans from the south side of the J.E. “Buck” Karnes Bridge and ends at Knox County’s Marine Park; follows the shoreline of UT Research Park and Cherokee Farm above the Tennessee River; connects downtown Knoxville via the Neyland Greenway; Looney Island, located mid-river near the south end of the greenway, is an established nesting site for great blue herons
