Together with Whittle Springs Middle School, Knox County Health Department, Knox County, the City of Knoxville, BikeWalk Knoxville and United Way, a new pathway connecting nearby neighborhoods to Whittle Springs Middle School was opened, giving students a safer way to walk to and from school along White Oak Lane, a road with dangerous curves and hills.
With nearly 30% of students walking this route and five students struck by vehicles in the last nine years, safety was a pressing need. This new pathway is a smart solution that helps students avoid a dangerous section of White Oak Lane and travel to school safely.
Special thanks to the Siddiqi Foundation for providing a grant that helped fund the pathway and made the project come to fruition.
