Food City officials presented a $100,000 check to Legacy Parks Foundation today, in support of French Broad Veterans Memorial Park.
The 8.5-acre park overlooks the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery and the beautiful French Broad River in east Knox County. The park will be a place for community events, family gatherings, special celebrations and private reflection to honor our East Tennessee Veterans. Construction is underway with estimated completion set for early next year.
”Food City is proud to support our area veterans in honor of their sacrifice and service to safeguard the many liberties we enjoy every day. We’re proud to partner with Legacy Parks Foundation on the French Broad Veterans Memorial Park, which will pay tribute to our East Tennessee Veterans and serve as a special gathering place for the entire community,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.
With the gift from Food City, Legacy Parks has raised $1.7 million toward the $1.8 million goal, including $250,000 from Knox County and $500,000 from the State of Tennessee.
“We are honored to be creating this meaningful park that will be a proud testament to the service and sacrifice of our East Tennessee Veterans,” said Carol Evans, executive director of Legacy Parks Foundation. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year to cut the ribbon!”
You can support this project or honor a veteran by making a donation to the French Broad Veterans Memorial Park. Their name will be added to the Wall of Honor – a beautiful tribute to their commitment to protecting our nation’s values and freedoms.
