2022 Legacy Luncheon celebrates successes, announces new parks, trails and water access

We are grateful that the 2022 Legacy Luncheon for the Parks was another huge success thanks to our inspiring speaker and the more than 1,000 sponsors and Friends who gathered at the beautiful Strong Stock Farm to show their support for our work.

Keynote speaker Cheryl Strayed shared insights from her journey hiking more than 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail alone – a story of survival, grief and redemption.

We were also thrilled to share the news of the recent and upcoming projects and successes over the last year

  • Funds have been raised to create the French Broad Veterans Memorial Park and construction is set to begin in 2023.
  • The 1.5-mile SoKno Rail Trail will be created in the heart of south Knoxville’s business district.
  • A natural surface walking trail will be added to West Hills Park.
  • Furthering our mission to create adaptive access to recreation, Legacy Parks will create an adaptive boat launch at Cruze Landing on the French Broad River.
  • A new Play Every Day initiative will enhance our community sports fields with artificial turf.
  • Ground was broken last month at Morningside Park last month to transform it into a multi-generational, multi-ability playspace through a $5 million BlueCross BlueShield Healthy Place grant that was awarded to Legacy Parks in 2020.
  • Earlier this year, Legacy Parks create an adaptive trail at Dogwood Elementary School – creating access to the existing outdoor classroom from the school’s playground.
  • Legacy Parks also opened an adaptive boat launch at Powell High Landing on Beaver Creek.

The Legacy Luncheon for the Parks is our biggest fundraiser of the year, which allows us to continue our work of expanding and accessing our parks, trails, and waterways. A huge thank you goes to all of our sponsors, our elected officials in attendance, our wonderful board of directors, Strong Stock Farm for hosting us, and everyone who supported this wonderful event.
