River Bluff Natural Area
The 70-acre River Bluff property sits on the southern ridge overlooking the Tennessee River with an excellent view of downtown and UT Campus.
Legacy Parks raised over $1.6 million to acquire this former civil war battle site – and the last unconserved viewshed along Knoxville’s south waterfront. At the time, the property was slated for development.
Legacy Parks Foundation acquired the land in 2015 after raising over $1.6 million to protect the ridge from development. The Foundation donated the property to the City of Knoxville to become a city park, after preserving the tract through a conservation easement.
The River Bluff Natural Area was the site of Knoxville’s longest City War skirmish – the Battle of Armstrong’s Hill.
