Fountain City Skatepark
In February 2007, the Fountain City Skatepark Task Force, consisting of community leaders, parents, skaters and city representatives, began working together and identified a site for the skatepark on Knox Road at Maple Drive.
Legacy Parks Foundation managed the fundraising effort in conjunction with Fountain City Town Hall and the task force, raising more than $103,000 for the project.
Funding for the project included $50,000 from the City of Knoxville, $10,000 from the State of Tennessee, and over $63,000 raised in private donations. Legacy Parks also received a donation of 1.6 acres of land located between Maple and Fair Drives to be used for the park and a stormwater retention pond.
The task force developed the concept design in 2007 and finalized the plan in early 2008.
After three years of hard work, Fountain City Skatepark was completed and opened to the public in April 2010.
