Knoxville, Tenn. – Legacy Parks was awarded a $6,500 grant from REI to help create another adaptive trail at Sharps Ridge Veterans Memorial Park. The funds will be used to modify the existing Lincoln Trail so that there is access to adaptive trails on both sides of the ridge.
Adaptive trails accommodate wheelchairs, adaptive mountain bikes and those with mobility restrictions. Legacy Parks has the goal of creating adaptive trails in all quadrants of the city and county. This is the sixth consecutive year that Legacy Parks has partnered with REI to create trails and other outdoor recreation amenities in our community.
Legacy Parks Foundation is an East Tennessee nonprofit that works to conserve our natural resources, create public places, and connect communities. The goal is to ensure that the region enjoys exceptional recreational opportunities and natural beauty and that these assets exist for generations to come. To date, Legacy Parks has raised more than $11 million, added 500 plus acres of parkland for Knox County, and helped conserve 1,000 acres of natural space in East Tennessee.
